Equilibrium
Updated: Sep 28, 2021
The second chapter in my book, Life Imitates Science, describes the concept of equilibrium. All complex systems that are stable, reaches some level of equilibrium with the environment and try to maintain it. Simple example is if you are sitting in a a room and the temperature starts to drop, you start to feel chills and put on a jacket or sweater to offset the cold temperature. Life can bring changes that can shift your equilibrium, purposely or unexpectedly. Examples include a job change, getting married, having children, or moving to a new city, there are disruptions to your environment caused by external factors
The key to managing this is to try to understand that situation has changed and that you need to strive to a new equilibrium level. As in the previous blogs about comfort zone and inertia, equilibrium is a partnering concept in that you are trying to reach a new comfort zone level and it takes effort and energy. Understand that while this process can be upsetting, these changes should be looked at as an improvement over your current situation.
